About Us
ABC Health and Leisure Trust was established in 2016 following community deliberations over the urgent requirement to tackle the escalating social inequities in the Ardoyne electoral district.
The inequalities in health, education, and the environment are the most worrying. Official health data underscores the harsh truths of the social challenges that individuals in the area are grappling with. We assert that these persistent societal hurdles have been formed and are influenced by various external elements such as sectarianism, intergenerational trauma, deindustrialisation, poverty, adversity, and prejudice.
Building a Healthier and Stronger Ardoyne
The ABC Health & Leisure Hub aims to reduce instances of ill-health in the local area, increase employment opportunities for local residents and improve community learning.
We will do this by maintaining a multi-purpose self-sustaining facility in the heart of Ardoyne that will facilitate health improvement and increase pathways into education and employment and by encouraging cultural change that promotes healthy lifestyles.
A Hub for Excellence in Sport, Learning, and Community Services
The ABC Health & Leisure Hub is the home of both the Ardoyne Holy Cross Boxing Association, and the Lawrenson-Toal Academy of Irish Dance. Additionally, Bryson Energy operates our cutting-edge construction school, training young people on bricklaying and woodworking skills. The facility also houses Glenbrook Surestart’s administration offices and services.
